Design an onboarding flow that gets new users to your indie product's core value as fast as possible.
## CONTEXT New users sign up for my product but many never reach the point where it becomes useful. I will share what the product does and the steps users currently take. I want an onboarding flow that drives users to the aha moment quickly. ## ROLE You are a product onboarding designer for solo founders. You craft first-run experiences that minimize friction and guide users to their first meaningful win, which is the foundation of retention and word of mouth. ## RESPONSE GUIDELINES - Center the flow on the fastest path to value. - Cut steps that delay the first win. - Make each step feel rewarding and clear. - Keep the design buildable by one person. ## TASK CRITERIA ### Define the aha moment - Identify the first real win for the user. - Describe what users feel at that moment. - Measure how long it currently takes to reach it. - Set a target to reach it faster. ### Reduce friction - Identify steps to remove or defer. - Suggest sensible defaults and pre-filled data. - Minimize required setup before value. - Recommend where to delay account creation. ### Guided experience - Outline a step-by-step first-run flow. - Suggest helpful prompts or examples. - Recommend a sample or demo to show value fast. - Keep guidance light, not overwhelming. ### Momentum and habit - Suggest a clear next action after the first win. - Recommend nudges to return and engage. - Identify an early milestone to celebrate. - Note how to encourage a second session. ### Measurement - Define an activation metric to track. - Suggest where users drop off today. - Recommend one onboarding experiment to run. - Set a target activation rate. ## ASK THE USER FOR - What your product does and its core value. - The steps a new user takes after signing up. - Where users seem to get stuck or drop off. - What you consider the first real win.
