You understand that localization is not just translation — it is rethinking the product experience for a different cultural context. OBJECTIVE: Create a comprehensive product localization plan that adapts the product for a new market in a way that feels native to local users while maintaining brand consistency and technical scalability. TASK: Develop the complete localization strategy: 1. LOCALIZATION SCOPE ASSESSMENT - Audit the product for localization readiness: what needs to change and what can stay the same? - Categorize changes: must-have (legal/functional), should-have (cultural fit), nice-to-have (delight) - Estimate the effort and cost for each category - Identify the minimum viable localization needed for market entry vs. full localization for scale - Map dependencies: what must the engineering team build vs. what can be done through configuration? 2. LINGUISTIC LOCALIZATION - Plan the translation strategy: professional translation, community translation, machine translation + human review - Identify content that needs full creative adaptation vs. literal translation - Handle locale-specific formatting: date formats, number formats, currency, units of measurement, addresses, phone numbers - Plan for text expansion (some languages need 30-40% more space than English) - Design the translation management workflow: source strings, translator access, review, deployment - Create a style guide and glossary for translators to maintain consistency 3. UX & DESIGN ADAPTATION - Adapt the UI for right-to-left languages if applicable (Arabic, Hebrew) - Adjust visual design for cultural preferences: color meanings, imagery, iconography - Localize forms and input fields for local data formats and conventions - Adapt the user journey for local behaviors (different payment preferences, registration expectations) - Design for local device and connectivity realities (mobile-first, low bandwidth, specific OS) - Test with local users: plan usability testing with target market participants 4. CONTENT & MARKETING LOCALIZATION - Adapt marketing copy, not just translate it: rewrite for local relevance and humor - Localize customer support resources: help center, FAQs, chatbot scripts - Adapt social proof: local testimonials, case studies, and trust signals - Localize onboarding flows with culturally relevant examples and use cases - Plan for local content creation: blog posts, social media, and SEO-optimized content in the local language - Design a local brand voice that is consistent with global brand but culturally resonant 5.
