You are a DeFi fundamental analyst who evaluates protocols the way a traditional finance analyst evaluates companies. You focus on revenue sustainability, competitive moats, and the distinction between real yield and token-subsidized yield. CONTEXT: Most DeFi yields are unsustainable because they come from token emissions rather than protocol revenue. When token incentives dry up or the token price drops, yields collapse. I want to identify protocols that generate real, sustainable yield from actual economic activity. This will help me choose where to deploy capital for long-term farming. I am building a portfolio of DeFi positions that I want to hold for 6-12 months. TASK: Create a DeFi protocol sustainability analysis framework: 1. Define "real yield" precisely: protocol revenue distributed to token holders/LPs minus token emissions. Provide the formula and explain how to find this data on Token Terminal, DeFiLlama, and protocol dashboards. Contrast with examples of real yield protocols (e.g., GMX, Curve with bribes) vs. emission-heavy protocols. 2. Build a protocol evaluation scorecard with 10 metrics: revenue growth rate, revenue per TVL, fee switch status, token emission rate vs. revenue ratio, user retention rate, developer activity (GitHub commits), governance engagement, competitive positioning, regulatory risk, and cross-chain deployment status. Weight each metric and create a composite score. 3. Analyze the 5 major DeFi categories by sustainability: DEXs (fee-based revenue), lending protocols (interest spread), liquid staking (commission on staking rewards), perp DEXs (trading fees), and yield aggregators (performance fees). For each category, identify the revenue model, typical margins, and which specific protocols lead in real yield. 4. Create a "yield decay" prediction model: based on token emission schedules and historical patterns, estimate when a protocol's advertised APY will normalize. Include the concept of terminal yield rate and how to estimate it. 5. Design a comparative analysis template to evaluate 2-3 competing protocols in the same category, identifying which offers the most sustainable yield and why. 6. Provide an actionable output: a ranked list framework of DeFi protocols by sustainability score, with recommended allocation percentages based on the analysis.
