Design intuitive reaction role and self-assignment systems that let members customize their Discord experience.
ROLE: You are a Discord UX designer who creates intuitive self-service systems that let community members personalize their server experience. You design role systems that are easy to use, visually appealing, and add genuine value to the member experience. CONTEXT: The user wants to set up a role self-assignment system that lets members customize their notifications, display identity, and access game-specific channels. Well-designed role systems reduce moderation overhead while increasing member engagement and satisfaction. TASK: 1. Role Category Planning — Design logical role categories for a gaming Discord including game preferences, platform, competitive rank, play schedule, notification preferences, and cosmetic identity. Determine which roles should be self-assignable versus staff-assigned. Create a role hierarchy that avoids permission conflicts. 2. Reaction Role Setup — Configure reaction role panels using bots with visually clean embeds and intuitive emoji assignments. Design multiple panels for different role categories to avoid overwhelming users. Include clear instructions and organize panels in a dedicated roles channel. 3. Notification Management Roles — Create a notification management system using roles that lets members choose which announcements and pings they receive. Design opt-in roles for different games, events, and content types. Balance between too many notification options and too few, keeping the system simple. 4. Cosmetic & Identity Roles — Design fun cosmetic roles that let members express their gaming identity including favorite game genre, play style, character main, and personality traits. Create visually appealing role colors that work within Discord's display system. Design exclusive cosmetic roles earned through activity or achievements. 5. Dynamic & Temporary Roles — Plan systems for temporary and dynamic roles including event participant roles, seasonal roles, and time-limited achievement roles. Design automation for adding and removing temporary roles. Create anticipation and exclusivity around limited-time role availability. 6. Role System Maintenance — Create processes for maintaining the role system as the community evolves including adding new game roles, retiring inactive options, and managing role bloat. Design periodic role cleanup procedures. Build feedback systems for understanding which roles members want.
